I just had a realisation. For clarity, this whole thing is from a lens of within the alterhuman community, excluding outsiders sentiments.
So, you know how fictionfolk often get upset by things posted in fandom spaces about their source, and they're essentially given a "you have to acknowledge it's not about you the person it's about the character so you need to get over it" as a response? And that's the general community sentiment. It's only seen as ok to be upset at all if someone's being an ass to your face directly about you, and if not then you have to separate from your source to "get over it because it's not about you". Sometimes even if someone is being weird about your source to your face, you get mixed responses and people telling you it's "not that deep".
But.. with animalfolk (and otherkin who aren't generally seen as fictionkind). I think from what we've seen it's more normalised if a fox therian sees someone saying foxes are stupid and gets upset. It's more okay for a dragonkin to get pissy when people say all dragons are xyz. And if someone brings animal-based stereotypes to an animalfolk like "dragons are all stuck up" to dragonkin, they're 9.9/10 times going to be backed up fully by the community around them. This is ignoring when animalfolk are making comments like "these animals in these cute videos are being mistreated" and correcting misinformation--because that's a separate thing of them informing and reducing harm as opposed to a personal vent. I'm only talking about the community-wide "valid" responses to criticism of your source and emotions around that.
Fictionfolk who are also animalistic or things like fictherians aren't exempt from the treatment of fictionfolk mentioned above, either, so it feels less about animality (and less about what's "physically real" due to non-animal otherkin/mythkin) and more about the identity being fictional in general.
Now I know animals are "real" (and in the case of dragons/other mythkin who aren't earth animals, well-established in the alterhuman community) and fandom should be allowed to exist as fandom, I'm not advocating for fictionfolk shutting fandom up or anything. This is about the allowance of emotion people feel. I'm not talking about what animalfolk or fictionfolk do in response to these situations, just simply the way others react when they simply express discomfort. Animalfolk from what we've seen aren't told to separate from their identity "just a little more" so they're less upset when people call cats stupid or ugly, they're usually supported. Fictionfolk on the other hand are much less likely to be supported and more likely to be told that for their own health, they should separate from their source. It feels so vastly different in how these things are handled.
And of course, nothing against animals or animalfolk--it's just a longstanding thing that fictionfolk are left behind a fair in the community bit so animalfolk are the baseline of how people should be treated by their community in my opinion.
On a similar vein of thinking, factfolk (including nonhuman factfolk) are often dragged through the mud even moreso than fictionfolk, in very similar ways. You have to be careful with what you say as a factive or someone will accuse you of... Anything under the sun, really. Especially if you talk about your source and your feelings about them. Factfolk are expected to be largely separated from their source in general, not just when they dare to have emotions about it. Which... Isn't great!
Maybe this post is an ice cold take but the "you need to step back from your identity" idea is really normalised and--yeah, in a lot of cases it's healthier to step back, but.. Why is that the response given to people venting? Why do we expect fictionfolk and factfolk to readily sever their close-knit connection to their source whenever others think it's too unhealthy for them? To change who they personally are whenever they vent their frustrations? Why are fictionbased and factbased identities treated as less of an irremovable part of you and something you should bend and remove yourself at least partially from? The more I think about it, the more it feels incredibly unfair that it's so normalised.
And I think it shows that yeah, there's a long way to go for acceptance of fictionfolk and factfolk in our community. These things need to change and have needed to for a damn while. I don't have any solutions, but I have opinions and rambles, so maybe sharing them will spur something on. At the very least I hope some people see this and feel seen, and feel like it's not morally wrong or a personal failing to feel upset when your source is insulted--or anything of the sort, for that matter.

Factfolk/Fact-Id Flag
PT: Factfolk/Fact-Id Flag /End PT
ID: A 9 striped flag, with every other stripe going from thick to thin. The thin stripes are about half the size of the thick stripes. From top to bottom the colors are medium warm purple, dark purple, light desaturated purple, blue gray, white, blue gray, cerulean blue, dark blue, medium blue. In the middle of the white stripe is two combined white diamonds that poke out from the stripe going into the light desaturated purple and cerulean blue stripes. In the center of the diamonds is the symbol for factfolk, an outline of a simple camera with an outline of the earth as its lens. The symbol is blue gray.
A flag for anyone under the factual identity umbrella. A factual identity in simple terms is best defined as one that has roots and connections to something or someone that currently is existing or has existed in this world (though exceptions may exist in cases such as Exofactive, again this is a simplified definition). In many cases this is a human, but it doesn't have to be. This includes, but is not limited to:
Fact- folk
Fait- / Fuck- folk
Fog- folk
-tives
-kins
-therians
-hearteds
-linkers
-chainers
-vaugers
-karditypes
-stels
Endels, IRLs, DAs, and other folks whose identity is based in, caused by, or influenced by delusions or psychosis in general
Exofactives
Pre Factives
Post Factives
Those with factual hearthomes
Those who just "are" their identity and do not label it further
People who cannot, or do not want to, label their factual identity
[To be clear, prefixes are meant to be mixed and matched]
Again, this is meant to be an inclusive but not exhaustive list. Meaning it is a list to give an idea of who is included by default, but it is by no means limited to only these folks. It is simply a baseline idea for better understanding.
Symbol:
ID: Two symbols, both the same except the first is in black, the second is in white. The outline of a simple small rectangle hand held camera. Where the lens would normally be is an outline of the earth focused over the atlantic ocean.
We wanna talk about the symbol for a minute. The flag itself doesn't have too much meaning besides the color scheme is just one we noticed being used a lot for factual identity flags, so we decided to stick to it, and thought it looked pretty. The symbol on the other hand does have meaning and importance behind it.
The first is the camera. There was a discussion some time ago about a potential fact-id symbol in a server we are in, and an option someone threw out was a camera, to parallel fict-id's common use of a book. It's stuck with us ever since. Something about the symbolism of being able to (in theory) take a picture with two of the same guys. However at some point it also struck us another side of it. A common misconception used against factfolk is they're stealing someones identity, and claiming to be the 'real' [x]. While obviously we cannot say this never happens, that is not the experience for the majority of the community. Instead a better understand is the person you are in a photograph from 10+ years ago, while you, isn't who you are now. Factfolk are in many cases, again no experience is a monolith and we do not claim to speak for the community as a whole, a version of their source. Snippets of them reproduced, but not 1:1 copies. Like how even two photos taken close together won't be exactly the same.
The second part is the earth. This part is a lot more self explanatory. It in itself represents how in majority of cases ones source is from this world. It being where the lens of the camera would be is representative of the focus of that part of the identity. How sharing a world with ones source can impact things.
It can also be easily represented with the emoji combo of 📷🌎 [earth non specific, any can be chosen. A fun choice reason could be where an identity stem from!] which we think is neat.

Introjects are SO much more than "I'm Just that Character!"
Introjects, whether fictive or factive, all have a role they contribute to the system, they have a reason why they exist. Sometimes that is being source connected and an exact copy of their source! BUT THAT ISN'T ALWAYS THE CASE!!!!
To demonstrate what I'm talking about I want you all to meet Shy, Flora and Petalfluff. All three are introjects of the character Fluttershy from My Little Pony. But all three are very very different and the ways they have introjected from Fluttershy is different.
Shy introjects mainly Fluttershy's shy and innocent qualities. He himself scares very easily and his role in the system is to be a childlike part.
Flora introjects Fluttershy's love for animals as well as her assertiveness. Flora does not have any qualities of being shy - to the point where sometimes she says it's like she's introjected from Mean Fluttershy. Because of her fierceness, Flora is a protector in the system.
Petalfluff introjects the well roundness of Fluttershy's character, the assertiveness when she needs to but also the timidness. The most important part of what Petalfluff introjects is Fluttershy's ability to be kind and see the best in the world. She's hopeful and encourages us to always take the route of kindness. Petalfluff's role in the system is housekeeper.
Introjects rely on perception, and as you can see for a multi-faceted character or person there can be multiple different perceptions. Introjects themselves are multi-faceted and there's so much more under the surface than what a lot of people think.
The brain is simply taking some, or all, traits from a pre-existing character or person in an event of stress or trauma in order to benefit the well-being of the overall system. If you are an introject and are super source connected! That's so cool, a bunch of our introjects are also source connected! Just know that isn't always the case :)

Here’s some positivity for introjects who are connected to their source!
There’s no one true or correct way to be an introject - introjects come in all shapes and sizes, and may have a wide variety of ways in which they view their source! Whether a factive, fictive, faitive, objective, conceptive, songtive, or something else, it’s okay for introjects of all sorts to like their source of feel connected to it. If you’re an introject who is connected to your source, this post is for you!
❤️ Shoutout to introjects who identify with their source’s name, gender, pronouns, sexuality, or other identities!
🧡 Shoutout to introjects who kin their sources!
💛 Shoutout to introjects who identify with their source despite having never directly seen or interacted with it!
💚 Shoutout to introjects whose source is their special interest, hyperfixation, or one of their favorite things!
💙 Shoutout to introjects who roleplay or otherwise engage with the world as their source!
💜 Shoutout to introjects who are source divergent or who don’t identify much with their source, but are still deeply connected to it!
❤️ Shoutout to introjects who like being referred to as their source!
🧡 Shoutout to introjects who are tired of their relationship to their source being policed or dictated by others!
💛 Shoutout to introjects who distanced or disconnected from their source, only to reconnect with it later on!
💚 Shoutout to introjects who often feel ostracized or left out of plural spaces because of how they view their source!
💙 Shoutout to introjects whose relationships to their source are intricate, nuanced, or complex!
💜 Shoutout to introjects who go through phases or waves of feeling more or less connected to their source!
Introjects may not literally be their source, but that doesn’t mean they are morally obligated to abandon connections to their source altogether! Introjects can and often do have a wide range of opinions on or relationships to their sources! It’s okay for introjects to love their source or feel strongly connected to it. You’re still just as valid and cherished as an introject, a member of your system, and a member of the plural community just the way you are!
We hope every source-connected introject who sees this can have a lovely day today. Please treat yourself with the kindness and gentleness you deserve, and don’t judge yourself too harshly for how you view your source! Rest assured, you will always be welcome in our spaces without the expectation to change. Thanks so much for reading, and take care!

Sourcehoardic.
A label for all source hoarders, whether they are kins, introjects, constels and so on. This label welcomes any connection to source, whether its just something in the background or a key part of your identity. This label is about embracing your multiple sources, be cringe be free ideals, and generally for those who just have a bunch of sources that tie into their identity one way or another. This term accepts all types of users, from fictives to factives to any kin type.
Anyone can use my terms. Do not involve it in discourse.
Taglist: @radiomogai, @clusterofcoins, @rwuffles, @smilepilled (I just feel the latter two would like the term.)

Hi !! Um. Is it bad that we have some alters who go against out collective beliefs of our system specifically because they're factives of someone and fully source connected? We're collectively antiendo + some other things but they're the opposite because they're source connected (and the person has literally opposite beliefs to me)
Also does it mean we're meant to not interact with antiendos despite the fact it's like. 1% of our system that isn't antiendo?
sorry if this is too much to ask about,,
as long as collectively/a majority of your system is anti endogenic your allowed to interact!

System culture is always biting your tongue, even though you want to tell everyone who you really are so badly. It’s holding back because you know it will only create problems and you still won’t be seen as yourself… and you have to just carry on forever as if you were never You, no matter how frustrating that is.
Signed, a deeply source connected factive co-host 🫡

being the main host + a factive is so annoying
“You arent the REAL Gerard Way” I am aware I never claimed to be
oh, and I’m also annoyed because I was in a discord server and I was using plural kit so it was proxied to me and some random person in the server was being invasive and it was so annoying
They kept asking about Frerard and if I have pseudo memories of dating Frank which is uncomfy because it seems like I’m just kind of being used is this person’s like weird fanfic fantasy which I don’t wanna be
The person in question was like 13 and started guilt tripping me when I said to please stop (they were talking about how they were the worst person and they should harm themselves and stuff, just cause I asked them to not ask those kind of things to me and it made me feel bad, but I know they were probably just doing that so I would tell them)
it it’s pretty infuriating because yes, I am an introject and I am source connected but I’m not claiming to be the Gerard way I’m not identity stealing like I know I’m not actually a famous musician but still, I don’t wanna be treated like either I’m trying to steal his identity or I’m some fan for teenage girls who ship frerard

ID: a 6 striped flag: light yellow, yellow, orange, cyan, indigo, purple. it has a purple and yellow overlapping heart in the center, like a venn diagram. the second image is without the hearts. end ID
KINDRIVE - when youre similar to another alter to the point of resonating with each other on a personal level, like youre mirroring or reflecting each other. semi-similar to being a factive, but its less that youve been altered by a source and more that you individually just happened to be similar and now share this connection i chose complementary colors for the flag to symbolize this! the hearts are overlapping like a venn diagram to show how the two (or more) alters overlap you can say youre a kindrive of x, much like saying youre a fictive or factive of x. i made this term for myself but anyone can use! Before i begin if this is too discourse-y i deeply apologize and understand if you need to delete this! I don't think it should be but I'm very bad about understanding what is or isn't. /gen
Why, is it so hard for headmates who have "problematic" sources to exist in other plural spaces, whether or not the introject/headmate ids with source or not?
Hazbin hotel/helluva, Harry Potter, etc. I can understand why one may not want to make content for it, but i feel like if i make content myself for us then i feel like I'll have people try to cancel me or bully me. When i already know its problematic and no way do i support the creators.
It just feels like now days people aren't allowed to like/enjoy things that are problematic while KNOWING its problematic because you either get lumped in with Haters Who Watch it and aren't actually critical just, hater bullies, or, people who love it sm they dont see flaws.
i guess tldr version is i hate that at least for ours/us , problematic introjects ( fictional or factives ) are supposed to just.. go into hiding or not use their names.
this did get a bit long and also a bit discoursey. but we really feel you here anon. our response is below the cut.
hey, we’re sorry, we know exactly what you’re talking about, but we do not have a good answer for you. it really is so unfortunate that introjects with problematic sources are so often scorned, cast aside, ignored, or unable to live their lives in ways which are affirming to them.
engaging with ““bad”” or problematic media doesn’t make you a bad person. thought crimes aren’t real. people are capable of consuming media without being like the people within the work and making the same choices. you’re allowed to like hazbin hotel or harry potter or whatever. literally it’s fine. some amount of critical thinking may be necessary (for example, enjoying hp while understanding the author’s bigotry and how that may have influenced the work), but again, consuming problematic media is fine. besides, engaging with media with problematic themes may be cathartic for a lot of people and can even help folks come to terms with their own pasts and trauma histories.
we’re huge proponents of do no harm, take no shit, ie consuming problematic media doesn’t harm anyone. but engaging in harmful or problematic behavior does, so check yourself, and be open to being called out if consuming certain things has influenced you to start acting in harmful ways. as an example of this, our system really loves breaking bad. a character on that show says “bitch” a lot, and that got incorporated into our own lexicon. it was on us though to learn how to curb our language and when it was and wasn’t appropriate to use that word. that doesn’t mean we can no longer enjoy breaking bad. it just means that we have to be cognizant about how the media we love has been influencing us.
but when introjects are involved, people seriously need to understand that these system members are not literally their sources, even if they are extremely source connected. introjects (and we do mean all introjects, not just fictives!) with problematic sources are real. they exist in the real world, and they deserve to be treated as people and respected as equals, not as discourse points or something that exists in theory but not in real life. a hazbin hotel introject making fanart or writing fanfic of their source does not benefit the creator of the original work in any way, and should not be a reflection on that introject or their system’s character. and quite frankly it is no one else’s business how an introject chooses to engage with their source.
we do think that introjects whose source is a real person who committed atrocities or caused grave harm should absolutely keep their source’s victims in mind when they discuss their source in order to be respectful towards other real people who have been harmed. but we believe that just takes cognizance and self awareness with a willingness to center compassion and respect for others and primarily victims of your source in the ways you engage with it publicly.
idk we could go on about this for much longer but in the end:
1. it’s okay to enjoy problematic or flawed media. it’s okay to make fan works for said media. you’re not supporting the original artists or creators by enjoying their flawed work and making fan works of your own.
2. introjects need to be treated as people with rights and agency first and foremost, even if they are incredibly source attached. that means they should have the agency to use their own names or appearances and identifying how they wish. it’s their lives, after all.
3. people in general and especially in the plural community should strive to be more understanding towards introjects, many of which did not get to choose their source, many of which may have complicated relationships with their source, and none of which need to be lectured or preached at about how their source is harmful. like. chances are, they already know.
idk. sorry if this is messy or all over the place, feel free to reach out if you need any clarification or have further questions. introjects with problematic sources will always be welcome on our blog, no questions asked. and we hope to help cultivate a plural community which is kinder and more understanding towards introjects of all stripes.
